About Lauren

Lauren McSwain-Starrett specializes in marketing, public relations, and social media technologies for higher education and nonprofit organizations. She holds a B.A. in communication from Wake Forest University and a Master’s in public policy and nonprofit management from Johns Hopkins University.

For the past 5 years, Lauren has helped lead public relations and outreach for the University of Virginia’s IT department, serving as the liaison between UVa’s technology community and its students, parents, faculty, and staff. She is a frequent speaker on maximizing technology for personal and professional growth while maintaining privacy and security.

Previously, she provided marketing, media outreach, and technology training services to several major national nonprofits in Washington D.C., including the National Organization for Women (NOW), the YWCA, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
